Does Lorato have hot showers, and can I drink the water?

Yes, the camp has hot showers. The water is clean for showers and washing, but it is not drinking water, so bring or buy drinking water (the Shell fuel station is about 1 km away and there are shops in Kasane). Guests on Booking.com mention clean, well equipped ablutions with hot water and power.

Is camping at Lorato cheaper than camping inside Chobe National Park?

Yes. Most guests are self-drive travellers stopping for one or two nights on the way to Kasane, Victoria Falls, Savuti, the Okavango Delta or Namibia.

Not to reach Lorato. The roads from the Ngoma border to Muchenje and on to Kasane are tar, and any car can drive them. For Savuti, Linyanti, Khwai and Moremi you need a high-clearance 4x4 with low range, because of deep sand and seasonal water. If you have a normal car, the tar route to Maun via Kasane and Nata is about 670 km from Lorato.

How many nights should I plan for a Botswana camping loop?

Five nights covers Lorato, Savuti, Khwai or Moremi and Maun. Seven nights adds a day in Chobe National Park and a second night at Savuti. See the sample trips above.

Is food available?

We do not serve meals, so bring your own food. Cold drinks are sold at the campsite and there are fire pits for cooking. Muchenje village has a butchery and small shops with very basic groceries.

Can I stop at Lorato on the way to the Okavango Delta?

Yes. The Okavango Delta is reached via Savuti on 4x4 tracks, or on tar roads via Kasane and Nata to Maun (about 670 km). Lorato is a quiet, green place to rest before either route.

Is there a cheaper option than the Chobe lodges?

Yes. Camping at Lorato is $20 per person per night, and you can hire a tent if you do not carry one. You still get a green grass campsite, solar power, hot showers and free ultra-fast Starlink Wi-Fi.
